As the leader of the Troublesome Trucks, no one expects S.C. Ruffey, (pronounced ‘scruffey’) to be nice and he never is. S.C. Ruffey is a truck with plenty of experience, a lot of attitude, and loads of influence over the other engines. Owned by S.C. Ruffey Company, this truck is not one of Thomas’s friends. He thinks his job as Troublesome Truck leader is to torment Thomas and the other trains.Author of The Railway Engine stories, Rev. W. Awdry knew S.C. Ruffey simply by Scruffey during his one appearance in the tale, “Oliver the Western Engine”. When he was introduced into the Thomas and Friends television series his name changed S.C. Ruffey, but his rough behavior stayed the same.
In Awdry’s original story, Scruffey is scrapped because of his bad attitude. In 2001 Thomas Wooden Railway did the same, after having him as a toy member from 1996, but in 2006 with his popularity in the television series, TWR brought him back again. The limited released 3.5 inch wooden models of S.C. Ruffey are still available while supplies last. Don’t let your child’s toy train set be without him.
